Response Sampling
Response sampling is the practice of collecting multiple outputs for the same prompt and conditions to estimate how often a result occurs. Because generated answers are probabilistic, repeated samples provide a more defensible measure than a single screenshot or manually selected response.
In plain terms
Ask the same question several times and count what happens instead of trusting one answer.
Why it matters
Sampling reduces the risk that a report mistakes random variation for a reliable brand position.
How to apply it
- Choose a repeat count before collecting results.
- Keep prompt, model and settings consistent.
- Report both the rate and number of samples.
Example
A brand recommended in six of ten controlled runs has a 60% observed recommendation rate, not a guaranteed ranking.

Ranking is no longer enough
You need to be cited, mentioned, and recommended.
Being cited, mentioned, and recommended are three different outcomes, and most brands only ever achieve the first one. Ranking is no longer enough because AI engines answer buyers directly and name only a short list of vendors as the recommendation — everyone else is cited in passing, if at all. Get a free AI Visibility Report to see exactly where your brand appears today across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity, and Copilot, where competitors are winning the recommendation instead, and what's keeping you from moving up the shortlist.
