Getting mentioned by AI is a function of four things: entity strength, content quality, third-party citations, and prompt-level testing. Here's how to build all four — and how to sequence the work so results compound instead of stalling.
- AI brand visibility
- ChatGPT visibility
- AI search visibility
- LLM visibility
Start with the entity
The single most under-invested layer in AI SEO is the entity. Brands that are confirmed as first-class entities across Wikidata, Organization schema, Crunchbase, LinkedIn Company, and category directories get named consistently by LLMs. Brands that aren't get hedged around or confused with similarly named companies.
Entity work is unglamorous — it's filings, structured data, and profile hygiene, not creative content — but it is often the fastest per-dollar unlock in the first quarter of a program.
The B2B AI brand visibility checklist
- Publish Organization schema with sameAs to authoritative profiles
- Confirm your entity in Wikidata and category directories
- Rewrite decision-stage pages for extractability
- Add Person schema and author profile pages for expert bylines
- Earn placements on the sources LLMs cite in your category
- Track ChatGPT visibility, Perplexity citations, and LLM visibility monthly
Then fix the content system
Once the entity is confirmed, the pages LLMs most often lift are your comparison and decision-stage pages. Rewrite these first for passage-level extractability: question-first headings, tight answer blocks, comparison tables, and clear evidence.
Avoid the temptation to rewrite the entire blog. Ninety percent of the visibility upside sits in twenty percent of the pages. Prioritize by intent, not by traffic.
Then earn the citations
Reverse-engineer the third-party domains that appear in competitor citations across your priority prompts. The list is usually 30–100 domains. Run a targeted digital PR program against those specifically — not against a generic authority list — and citation velocity moves within a quarter. See our post on how digital PR influences AI search citations for the mechanics.
Then measure honestly
Without prompt-level testing, most teams overestimate their AI visibility. Set up continuous sampling across the engines that matter to your buyers, log mention, citation, and recommendation separately, and roll up into share of voice per engine.
Expect the first honest baseline to be humbling. That's the point — it tells you where the leverage is.
Frequently asked
Why is my competitor mentioned but I'm not?
Usually one of three reasons: weaker entity signals, thinner extractable content, or fewer third-party citations. An AI visibility audit isolates which.
How long until we see brand mentions increase?
Entity fixes propagate in 4–8 weeks. Content rewrites lift within 6–10 weeks of publish. Citation-driven lifts appear within 90–120 days.
Do we need every AI engine tracked?
Track the ones your buyers use. For most B2B that's ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Gemini — with Copilot rising fast in Microsoft-heavy accounts.
