Brand Mention

A brand mention is any appearance of your name in an AI answer, linked or unlinked. It is the weakest of the three visibility outcomes: it confirms the engine associates you with the topic, but it says nothing about whether the engine trusts your content or would suggest you to a buyer.

In plain terms

A mention proves the engine knows you exist in this category. That is a starting position, not a result.

Why it matters for B2B

Mention counts are the easiest number to inflate and the easiest to misread as progress. They are useful only as a baseline you then improve into citations and recommendations.

How to apply it

  • Log mentions separately from citations and recommendations.
  • Note the context: being named as an also-ran differs from being named first.
  • Watch for mentions attached to the wrong category — a sign your entity data is unclear.
